Does Your Insurance Require a Referral?

Referrals is a system created by the Health Insurance Companies to control expenses.  Dermatology is considered a specialty, and some insurance plans require a referral to authorize payment.  Here are some tips to help figure out if you need a referral, and if you do, how to go about getting one.

  • Look at your insurance card:  Often times a card will state whether or not a referral is required.
  • Is your insurance plan a HMO?  Usually HMO plans require a referral.
  • Is your insurance plan a PPO? Open Access?  Usually these plans do not require a referral.
  • Is your primary care physician listed on the front?  This is generally a sign that that your plan may require a referral.
  • When in doubt give your insurance company a call.  An insurance company will always be able to answer any questions you have regarding referrals.
  • If you need a referral:  Please call your primary care physician, as they must write you a referral.  Our office will not be able to schedule an appointment until a referral is recieved in office.

Payment Options

We accept checks, cash and health savings account cards (flex spending) for co-payment.  Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted for cosmetic services as well as products.  If you have do not have health insurance, payment is expected in full at the time of service.

Additional Direction information:

If you are coming from the North metro area: Take 1-25 South, continuing until you reach the Lincoln Avenue (exit 193). Exit to your right on Lincoln Avenue (you will be going west toward the mountains).  Immediately, get into the left hand lane as you will take an immediate left turn at the 1st stop light which is Park Meadows Blvd.  You will continue to proceed south on Park Meadows Blvd.  You will see the hospital complex off to the left.  Continue on Park Meadows Blvd. and follow the “Emergency” signs which will direct you to our building.   Off to your left, you will see the 1st building which is the Aspen Building, the 2nd building which is the Sky Ridge Hospital and the 3rd building which is the Conifer Building where Doctor Sigler is located on the 4th floor in Suite 410.  You will not see the sign for the Conifer building until you are on the south side of the Conifer building (just follow the Emergency signs and you will see the Conifer building entrance).

If you are coming from the South: Take I-25 North, continuing until you reach the RidgeGate Parkway (exit 192). Exit to your left to contiue onto Park Meadows Blvd.  Off to your right, you will see “Emergency” signs as well as the sign for the Conifer Building which is on the South side of Sky Ridge Hospital.  Doctor Sigler is located on the 4th floor in suite 410.


Complimentary valet in front of building is operational from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Patient parking is also available in front of the building.

What To Expect

Being well-prepared for your appointment will ensure that our doctor or physician assistant has all of the needed information to provide the best possible care for you.  You may wish to educate yourself regarding your symptoms by reviewing the content on this website.  Also, you may wish to take some time to review our Patient Forms page and familiarize yourself with our Providers.  We look forward to your first visit.

Prescription Refill Policy

If you need a prescription refill please call your pharmacy first.  Many times there are additional refills that patients are unaware of.  We require 48 hours to process all prescription refill requests.  If a prescription needs a prior authorization from an insurance company it will be handled in a timely manner.  All insurance companies very in length of time it takes to process authorizations.

Our office will not refill a prescription for a patient who has not been seen in the last year.  It is not appropriate to refill prescriptions for patients who have not had adequate follow up visits.  It is important for our providers to be able to monitor patient progress and use of medication.

Mail-In Pharmacies

If you would like a prescription mailed into a mail in pharmacy we will give you a written a prescription, and you will be responsible for mailing it into the mail-in pharmacy of your choice.  You can always contact your insurance company or the mail in pharmacy for more information.

Prior Authorizations 

Certain medications may require a prior authorization.  If your pharmacy tells you that one of your medications require a prior authorization, please have them get oin contact with our office.  Once we have recieved that notification, we will contact your insurance company.  A prior authorization can take up to a week to complete.  Once the insurance company has made a decision, we will notify you of that decision.
